What to bring on a Ghost Hunt

1. Wear Sturdy Walking Shoes since you'll be doing a lot of walking and climbing two
flights of stairs, so it's best to wear comfortable shoes.

2. Bring a Flashlight. There are some very dark places in areas where there are no
windows. You may want to bring along a back-up flashlight and extra batteries. We will
have extra batteries for sale.

4. Bring any kind of camera (i.e. digital, 35mm camera, 110 cameras), and include lots of
film. Even the inexpensive point and shoot camera with a built-in flash works well. High-
speed film of at least 400ASA is excellent for shooting in low light. Color or black and white
film will work. Video cameras and audio recorders are encouraged.

5. Make sure there is at least one other person with or close to you at all times for safety
reasons.

Other Equipment Suggestions:

  • Bring a small tape recorder to record any unusual sounds. Some experts
recommend using high-grade metal recording tape or digital voice recorder. Many
hunters have had great luck picking up EVP's with the recorders. EVP's are
Electronic Voice Phenomena. In other words, sometimes the ghosts will talk to you,
and you will be able to hear them on your recordings.

  • It is useful to carry a log or notebook for recording any phenomena, as well as what
you sense and feel. If you experience "touches", write down the time and where you
were along with any other pertinent information. If you are carrying an audio
recorder, then it will be easier to simply record your findings on there.

  • Carry a compass. Some ghosts make their presence known by shifting magnetic
fields. An unexplained change in the compass needle could indicate a spectral
    presence.

  • Bring a thermometer with you such as a standard or digital thermometer to record
temperature changes. A thermometer can help you record temperature fluctuations
    and hot/cold spots.

  • Bring an EMF meter. We have had success with EMF detection here at Huntsville
Depot Museum. Spikes in the electromagnetic fields have often coincided with
paranormal photos and evps, as well as personal experiences.
